Great read as always mate. 47 species for me today as well, not quite as exciting as your list though :-)Warren Bakerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16042798315431561018noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7636883589034895382.post-39716906220769411212012-05-11T23:06:43.016+01:002012-05-11T23:06:43.016+01:00Hola!!! I knew what the adult looked like but couldn't find a picture of a very fresh specimen. Downy Emerald is a brand new species for me. Anyway, enough waffle and thanks for putting me right!Philhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10543610581948446675noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7636883589034895382.post-53840747445357852422012-05-11T19:29:11.629+01:002012-05-11T19:29:11.629+01:00Phil ,

If you remember , the male Hairy Dragonfly is blue and green in colour , not unlike a smaller Southern Hawker . What you have there is one of the Emeralds .
Most probably a Downy / Cordulia aenea , too early for a Brilliant .
The two look very similar apart from the front view of the head , where the Brilliant has extra yellow .
A most enjoyable read . Strangely , the new post didn't show up on my side bar , I saw it on Warren's .Greeniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18036202102998375825noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7636883589034895382.post-56638181972598153792012-05-11T19:27:03.421+01:002012-05-11T19:27:03.421+01:00Oooh, loads of good stuff today! Got a pic of a fresh Hairy Hawker here for comparison: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8Svn-fxNLRQ/TbacdE6Mp8I/AAAAAAAABIc/TVQlWE-XyHE/s1600/Hairy+Hawker%252C+Dunge.jpg. Love the shot of Cormorant + terrapin, and the baby Long-tailed with its scarlet eyeliner :)Mariannehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10664459716979166280noreply@blogger.com
